Why is this so disgustingly cute.

A friend asked if I could show some steps of an older picture I drew last year.
I’d rather forget this one, because I kind of ignored everything I was trying to pay more attention to : / But I remember having fun drawing it, so ’s okay.

There, somewhere in the background, that’s the sketch. In the middle are some tests, on the bottom left are tiny scribbles of a character I would post more of I knew where the edited versions are, the first ones I posted on DA were just a tad too damn ugly. I don’t know why Cobra Commander’s in there.

Then I cleaned that sketch up a bit, rather than doing outlines, which would’ve died in the coloring anyways.

Some basics underneath the sketch, at this point I should’ve determined a light source. *head/desk*

And then just the usual paint-over-everything-until-it’s-done. Still no light source, sometimes I want to slap myself.

I just realized that I haven’t finished one single drawing in 2009 so far. My non-existent attention span in combination with me only drawing at night prevents me from starting anything that would take more than an hour or two.

A friend borrowed my macbook, and my laptop doesn’t have photoshop, so I needed an alternative if I want to scribble when I can’t use my pc at home ( No, never heard of simple paper and a pencil before ).

A lot of people asked me what I thought of the Watchmen movie.
I don’t want to bitch around, so I’m not gonna say anything until I got the dvd and watched it about 15 times with original voices. I will learn to like it. Because at this point, I want to more than I actually do : <

On an unrelated note, the first Revenge of the Fallen trailer is out. I forgot who said this, but I shall quote anyways because it’s still so very fitting:

Old sketch I fixed somewhat and started to color…just basics atm:

Stuff on the left is some “10 minutes until my pizza is done, gotta draw sth” and on the right is some Out Of Order things, also tablet practice…I hate straight lines. It’s not a problem on paper but digitally it’s just GRAAHH. I can use ctrl for horizontal and vertical lines, but everything else is pain.

To calm my nerves:

I finally got something like a sketchbook and I was carrying it around with me for the past week. It’s all pretty random and useless. But it’s way more comfortable to scribble that way instead of occupying three seats at once in a train with laptop & tablet and bags and whatnot.

So, here’s week one. Bear with me, I’m determined to get better at this, I just have to get used to this peculiar thing called paper first.
Some other disadvantages are: I need glasses. My scanner sucks. I’m too lazy to edit this properly.

Marker tests. The very first time I have used those since 2005 or something. Fail’d. I do like the skin color on the right, but I can’t remember which colors I used 8( …some grey & some purple & ‘egg shell’ I think :

Architecture stuff. This is a scan, even the numbers are hand-drawn fucking stencil. So tedious. And I’m so horrendously bad at it.

My sketches are so bad.
Y’know, I really do most of the work in the coloring, especially in these cases, I just did some very very loose placement and then shaped things as I moved along.

Ack. On the left is the first layer I still have. I remember that in the very beginning I just wanted to fake that Chocolate Factory poster, and slap the Rubber Bullets lyrics all over it. Twins and rainbows and gates and whatnot weren’t planned. Perfect example of how my drawings draw themselves.

The background:

This one I started in black and white. I detailed just two or three of the troopers, copypasted and perspective-distorted them in place and painted over them. Slapped color in, and painted over everything.

Anyways, I have only been drawing commission-stuff and everything else is on deviantart, so I don’t know what to post, so I give you old things.
Drew these in 2006 when I was in 1st/2nd semester and had some drawing classes. It’s all too big for scanning, so I took some photos which turned out horrible. Holy crap. Beware.

The origami designs are all by people on deviantart, I would like to give proper credit, but I didn’t manage to find the reference pictures I used back then : /

In nude life drawing class I used to draw pretty much everything except for the model.

So…the rest shall be in another post. Or not.

This was the sketch I did some months ago and found while searching for data on my twentythousand external harddrives. Yes, the first version of that chick was pointing a gun at j00. But we do not support violence, so she shall play guitar:

Then I started to paint over the sketch. As you can see, I made the design up along the way, because I’m stupid:

Then I took a guitar sketch I did before I started on this one, distorted it in place, drew the missing dimension in, and painted over it. …why didn’t I leave those stripes in : C

This is my lighting layer, I wanted an artifical, electronic look so I painted over the image with purple and yellow, and set said layer to ‘Overlay’:

After that, it’s pretty much just detailing and cleaning up:

And then some more detailing, and maxing contrast by painting over it with black and white on an ‘overlay’ layer:

And again I can’t say how long it took. I did the sketch months ago, then I found it this month and randomly worked on it for 20 minutes now and then.

Tools are the usual: Photoshop, wacom intuos, coffee and I was listening to Lykke Li and Architecture In Helsinki ( mainly ‘That Beep’!).

And I shall finish this with a photo again…I made some completely random buttons some time ago, just found them! I was wondering where those went. Underneath ‘em are some prints and a Spongebob advent kalendar:
